Free Bluesky Analytics: What You Can Track Without Paying

Most social analytics tools gate everything behind a signup because their data comes from an API that charges them per call. Bluesky is different, and it changes what "free" reasonably means.

Why Bluesky data can be free

Bluesky runs on the AT Protocol. Public profiles and public post metrics are readable through a public endpoint, without authentication and without a paid API tier.

That has a direct consequence for pricing: the expensive part of a Bluesky analytics tool is not fetching the data, it is storing the history. Reading a follower count is nearly free. Reading it every ten minutes for eighteen months, for every tracked account, and keeping all of it queryable, is not.

So the honest split is: current public numbers, cheap. Deep history and per-post analysis at scale, not cheap.

What you can get for free

Any public account's growth. Enter a handle on the homepage and you get that account's follower, post and engagement history charted, with no account of your own. This works for accounts that are not yours — useful for sizing up how an account in your field is actually growing rather than guessing from its follower count.

Follower and post trends over time. The gap between two snapshots is the growth figure Bluesky itself will not show you.

Engagement counts. Likes, reposts, replies and quotes, aggregated rather than read post by post.

The profile directory. Browse tracked accounts directly.

What free does not include

Two honest limits.

Impressions do not exist. Not on the free tier, not on any tier, not on any tool. The AT Protocol does not record how many times a post was served into a feed, so no product can report reach. Any Bluesky tool advertising impressions is estimating, and you should treat the number accordingly.

Depth costs money. Long retention windows, per-post breakdowns across your whole archive, and audience analysis are where a paid tier earns its keep. The public view is a real product, not a teaser, but it is deliberately the shallower one.

How to get started without signing up

  1. Go to the homepage
  2. Type a handle — yours or anyone's
  3. Read the growth charts

No email, no OAuth, no card. If you later want the private dashboard, connecting with Bluesky OAuth adds per-post analytics and audience detail for your own account.

A note on comparing tools

When comparing free Bluesky analytics tools, the question worth asking is how far back the history goes. Any tool can show today's follower count, because that number is one public API call away. Only a tool that has been recording for months can tell you what happened in May. That archive is the actual product, and it is the thing a new entrant cannot conjure.
